Thanks a lot for this fix. Works perfectly with itunes 7.0.2.16. The most recent itunes update had overwritten my previous solution to this problem.

Thank you very much! To anyone else wondering where the iTunes Plug-Ins subdirectory is, all you have to do is make one from scratch.

Sorry, but it's still not working. I'm using an HP multimedia keyboard, running Win XP. Updated with new driver from HP (file ver. 4.1.100.1332). I copied the mmKeys.dll file to all of the directories listed, but still the same problem: the keyboard play/pause/stop/prev/next buttons only work when iTunes is the active window. (Volume knob always works.) Any ideas?

As I mentioned earlier, I never got rid of this quirk myself. Upon a restart, make sure iTunes is running but out of focus the first time you hit the play button on your media keyboard.

The "Mode 2" media key functionality in the latest mPlugin solved the issue for me completely.

Awesome. I thought something was wrong with keyboard I just bought. It's a HP. But now the media keys are working.

Now if only I can figure out why some of the other keys aren't working.

Hi, this was working well at first but then i updated itunes to 7.1. Now it still works, but when i press the any of the buttons, it does the action twice. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Sorry, it seems that itunes now works without that .dll, so i removed it and its now working perfectly :).

iTunes 7.1 already has global hotkeys, you should uninstall localhosts's plugin. Your hotkeys will still work just fine :D

How do i uninstall the plugin? I deleted the dll but its still showing in itunes as being installed in View>Visualiser. Hotkeys are still not working properly

[[Update]]

Turns out deleted the plugin still doesn't fix the problem in iTunes 7.1. well done apple. *sarchasicly slow clapping*

this plugin fixes it :D
You should put it in C:Program FilesiTunesPlug-Ins :)

THANKS so much wow this plugin is amazing you have no idea how irritating it is to have to go into itunes to change songs etc.

Thanks localhost! This sure beats my old setup (I had a bunch of .vbs scripts bound to the different play keys, which was rather slow.)

Love your work man! Keep it up!

Great job on this.

I have been looking for something like this for my Dell E1505.

It works great except for one thing.... When iTunes is minimized then the combo play/pause button pauses the music but for only about half a second. Also when you hit stop when iTunes is minimized then the play button wont restart the music.

I used my multimedia volume buttons to control system volume so the fact that they dont control the itunes volume doesnt matter for me.

Otherwise this is a greatly appreciated plugin.

Thanks.

Spent like 3 hours googling to fix this problem and finally found this, thought it would work but it didn't! :(

Any ideas why? Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard. Best drivers, works with Windows Media Player perfect. iTunes will work if I have it selected, but if I'm in a game or checking websites it will not work. So annoying. Any other ideas why it won't?
