UPDATE: for YzDock 0.4, all you need to do is drag your applications or folders to the dock! B)

Y'z Dock 0.3.1

1. Make a shortcut to explorer.exe
2. Rename it to "Recycle Bin" or "Trash" or to whatever to want
3. Right-click on the shortcut then choose Properties
4. In the TARGET box, type in the following:

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe ,,::{YYY}

where {YYY} would be any of the following:

My Computer: {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
Recycle Bin: {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
Desktop: {00021400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

URL History Folder: {FF393560-C2A7-11CF-BFF4-444553540000}
Briefcase: {85BBD920-42A0-1069-A2E4-08002B30309D}
Internet Cache Folder: {7BD29E00-76C1-11CF-9DD0-00A0C9034933}
ActiveX Cache Folder: {88C6C381-2E85-11D0-94DE-444553540000}

note: Control Panel should be:
{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Found these (and a lot of other shortcut tips) at VirtualPlastic.

Finally, for any other app, just drag its icon to
the dock, right-click on it, choose "Property..." then rename and choose an icon.

I think Y'z Dock is so much easier to configure and use then Mobydock. I have been using Mobydock for quite some time (Ever since it came out) and it's a bit tough to learn at first. This dock with the drag and drop and customization of it with just clicking on things is much easier. But I still give props to Moby for creating his dock that I have been using until recently. Yeah definitely needed a trash icon on the dock!! I have some PNG's if you need some, I can upload them to you or something if you need any.
Thanks

Thanks for the offer but I've been converting my own icons with the help of xicons.com. :)

Yeah, YzDock is much easier to use and configure. I even accidentally discovered that you can even left-click and hold to resize the dock (because that's how I do it in the real OS X)... I guess for a split-second, my mind thought it was still using the real dock. :lol:

Anyway, I think that without Mobydock there would be no Yz Dock. It's good that we have alternatives and if each version learns from the other, then that will be all good for us! :)

Hey Fireball, what process do you use when converting the OSX icons from xicons to XP?? Mine come out kind of weird and not sure why.
Thanks in advance.

Fireball, I too have some problems converting PNG's to ICO's. The PNG images are 128 x 128 and are really nice looking. When I convert them to 128 x 128 ICO's I find their edges are really jagged and sharp.....I use IconSushi to convert them...Please help.

Oh and Clotz2000, I used the same procedure mentioned at x-icons (IconWorkshop and Stuffit Expander) and they came out just fine....What exactly do you mean by 'the icons are weird looking'??

I don't know, they just look pixelized. Maybe I need to try again with the tutorials. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks

Sorry for the late reply.

Sid,
I forgot to say that I use GConvert 3.8 to convert .ico to .png.

Sone,
for Outlook (from TechTV):

1. Open Regedit.
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences
3. Add a new DWORD value and name it MinToTray
4. Set it equal to 1.
5. Restart Outlook, it should now minimize to the tray.

for Outlook Express:

There's no regisrty setting, as far as I know but you can use HideOE.

I hope that helps. Good luck! :D

This is a compilation of some of the tips given about Y's Dock. The tips are given by the good people at HardwareGeeks.com . I hope it is useful as a quick initial FAQ list.

Y's Dock:

Tips

Requirements for Yamaguchi's Dock

OS: Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
Caution: This software does not work in Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000.
Please use 16 bits (65536 colors) of screen color depth or higher.

Q: Is there a way to use .ico files instead of .png files? And does someone know where I can find larger-sized icons for the dock. The ones I'm using now get pretty blurry when magnification is on.

A: believe the reason for pngs is the magnification part, icons give you specific sizes (32x32, 64x64, 128x128, so on), any icon you have, you can easily turn into png

get Axialis Iconworkshop 5 (search google), load up your icon, create a 128x128 icon if none exists, Export as Bitmap, select keep transparency, then save as png (seems like alot, but its actually very direct after a few attempts)

Q:[/b] the shortcut for the recycle bin doesent work if u have norton antivirus2003 installed. when u click the trash it just comes up with the norton protected files.

A: Simple enough, just go to C:\recycler and you'll see a number like "S-1-5-22-7475098755029", make a shortcut to it. Then point your Y'z dock icon at the new shortcut. The only draw back is you'll see that number instead of "recycle bin" in the title bar but it doesn't bother me. Been doing it like that since I got my hands on Y'z dock

A2: Just rename that numbered bin to recycle bin. It will cr
eate the number bin again in there, and leave you with 2 bins, both functional though (comment: 1)Yes this works for the display name but the actual name that appears in the title bar at top still has the number. 2) Mine has "Recycle Bin" in the titlebar, after I renamed it and added the new shortcut. )

A3: not sure what you guys are talking about, i've got nav2003 installed and i don't have a problem brining up the recycle bin.

Link to: c:\windows\explorer.exe
Arguments: /root,,::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
Work Folder: c:\windows\

works like a charm. though i haven't tried the new file:// way which may be causing your problem.

I found online that to make YzDock have links to normal things like Outlook, or MyComputer to make a link to explorer.exe with the follwowing as the arguments..

To add to the below:
create a shorcut to Explorer.exe
and use the following arguments

Desktop: {00021400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

TIPS how to add a trashcan, my computer, and control panel!!
For trashcan: drag n drop explorer.exe to the dock and in the argument catagory add the following:

,,::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

for my computer: drag n drop explorer.exe to the dock and in the argument catagory add the following:

,,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

for control panel: -"- :

edit- the trashcan will be functional as a shortcut and will not change icons. im sure yz will bring a new version fully featured.

How to add ShutDown shortcut or shutDown dialog shortcut in the Dock????????

put an icon and set the
Link To: C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe

-s (shutdown)
-l (logoff)
-r (restart)

additional arguments
-t xx (se
ts a time for shutdown in seconds ie:-r -t 05 would restart in 5 seconds
-f (force all programs to close)

This other method is the most reliable and trouble free:

to get a shutdown window, go to http://www.tsoftcent...ools/index.html and download closewin.exe. It's made by the same wonderful people who made truelaunchbar, and you can put the executable anywhere, then run shortcuts to it from your dock.

Is there anyway of removing the separator?

goTo C:\...\Yz'sDock folder\backgrounds\ and choose sep.png in your background subfolder, edit and set 100% transparent in image editor.

---------------------

010

tip1:
you needn't drag shortcuts to the dock if you don't already have them (like those on the desktop). go to where your program is installed and just drag the .exe to the dock.

tip2: you cannot yet move the separator from the dock, but you may do so via the itemlist.ini in your yzdock folder. make sure to exit from the dock first and then open your itemlist.ini. there should be 5 dashes that represent where the separator is. delete that line and create a new line between the items and insert 5 dashes to place your new separator. so far, yzdock sees the first of these dashes and translate that as the only separator.

Litestep is supposed to run as an alternate shell. So, that is alternate to explorer.exe.

what i really like is that Yīz Dock can be easily integrated into LiteStep. just create a shortcut to !.exe http://www.shellfron...odules-list.php and use LiteStepīs !bang commands as arguments.

so my Yīz Dock already has popup menus
Attention: The default pop-up menu
s are kind of ugly ,need to skin them

Q: Can this litestep menu on the dock be run with explorer still set as the shell or does litestep have to be set as the shell for it to work?

A1: to run with me I have to install it like shell (reboot to make the changes) and then ready start the "fun"...

A2: you can run LiteStep on top of explorer. if you only want the menu, load popup2.dll as the only module.

---------------------------------

012

Command line switches for explorer.exe
/e - Windows explorer view (means that it has the folders on the left side instead of just the contents)

/n - Opens a new window (means that if you already have an explorer view of that item it will always open a new one)

/root, - specifices root level (means that whatever you put as will appear at the top of the explorer view, just like the desktop normally appears)

/select, - , is the folder to receive initial focus; the parent folder is opened and the specified object is selected.

You have to separate the switches with commas. For example you can use:

C:\windows\explorer.exe /e,/n,C:\
to open a new windows explorer view of your C Drive

to open the same way as when you press Windows Key+E? ====> Explorer.exe /e will do it

-------------------------------

From Mr. Yamaguchi (Y's)

Question

I've extracted the installation files into a directory on my hard disk (C:\Program Files\YzDock). When I try to launch YzDock.exe I receive the following error message:

Language file (*.lang) is not found.

Both English.lang and Japanese.lang are in the same directory as the executable file. Why?

Answer
The *.lang file should be in a languages sub folder. The *.lang file must NOT be in the same folder as YzDock.exe.

Please see the contents
of a archive file(yzdck***.zip) again. There must be a languages sub folder.

The languages sub folder is included in the archive file. It is not unpacked or unpacked. This is influenced by setting of the extraction software(Winzip, Winrar, etc).

------------------------
To dear beta testers:

The program launcher "Y'z Dock" like the dock of MacOS X is released. This application is a beta version. Since there are still some bugs present, please send me your feedback on any bug you may find. But please understand I may not be able to reply to all of your emails.

In order to add icons, please drag and drop a file (.exe, shortcut, etc) straight from Explorer to the dock area. In order to delete an icon, please drag and drop the icon out of dock. Place the PNG images for your icons in the icons folder. Right-click on the icons in the dock, choose 'Property' and choose your icons images there. Right-click anywhere on your dock background and choose 'Setting' to change the settings that apply to the dock itself.

The clock and the trash bin are not yet implemented. They will be implemented shortly.

But now I will rest for a while... I will begin working on it again in a few weeks.

Enjoy!!

Know how to do a icon link to the Search function ?

(In Yamaguchi's Dock)

-----------------------------

I got it!

I figured a way to link the Search Function (Fido Dog):

1 Go to the "Start" button. Find the Search Icon (magnifying glass).

2 Drag it to any folder ( ex. Program Files ). This will create a shortcut. c:\Program Files\&Search

3 Change the name &Search to Search or Find or whatever

4 Drag the shortcut to the Y's dock and in the link box place the site of the shortcut (in this example c:\Program Files\Search

that is it. ( the first time you use search it may take a couple of seconds then it works fast )

I have not found a way to drag things into the trashcan (rubbish bin). I know you can open it but no drag-n-drop.

Here is a picture demontrating that you Can have multiple Y-docks

But I found Y-dock messes up graphics when running a game & if you do video capture it will drop video frames. So turn Y-dock off!
click here:

http://www.hardwaregeeks.com/board/attachm...s=&postid=35029

B)

PS: The second dock now runs on the left-side with hide-away feature

Some people report sluggish performance with DVD software or video apps but I think most problems are related to other applications conflicting. Here I'm running 3 Y-docks at the same time (the 3rd dock is hidden left side) plus a commercial DVD movie and the scrolling on the docks is fast. (Platform - P4, 2Ghz Intel, ASUS motherboard, NVidia GeForce3)

click to view:

http://www.hardwaregeeks.com/board/attachm...s=&postid=35033

So in most cases it is not the dock but the way the computer is configured and the apps that are running in the background.

IE is an integral part of Windows OS, so when you install WidowsOS you end up with an icon of IE explorer. This is not a common shortcut. If you open the property tab you won't find a target location. You need to find the Internet Explore.exe file and the name is not ie.exp or iexplorer.exe but something similar yet different it is called iexplore.exe and I find mine at :

c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IExplore.exe

so that is the path you enter for it in the link at Y's dock.

Actually, since it is a part of the shell(as is Explorer.exe) all you need in the shortcut section is "iexplore.exe" without the quotes.

This works on most ALL system files

i.e.:

calc.exe

mplayer2.exe

control.exe

etc.

Try it!

Here I will post my question and then answer it because many find this a problem.

Q. Everytime I try to resize a window or click on an icon at the edges the dock gets in the way because it is "always on top". How can I avoid this problem ?

A. If you go to the "dock settings" place the dock on autohide and decrease the sensitivity of the dock (move towards dull). This will allow you to move the pointer to the edge and grab whatever you want before the dock reacts to your pointer. It is not the perfect solution but it does work quite well. B)
