I like to see a new update to Mobydock as soon as possible but putting much function on DX9 I think is a bad strategy. Upgrades from DirectX 7 to 8 did not go smoothly for many and the same will be true of DX9. Some will claim it's the best thing that came after sliced bread and many will find bugs and incompatibilities everywhere. DirectX9 is in beta and regardless when it will be out of beta, it will still be in beta for 6months after.
I think a more sound strategy will be to develop Mobydock with features that are compatible with DX8 and after DX9 provides large compatibility then look at those features that can only be achieved by DX9.
Just my 20cents

Anyway, DX9 is in RC form now

I hope Moby DOES use DX9 in his next build fully!
If you want DX8 support Y'z hasn't made any mention of a switchover to DX9 (so far) so let that be your dock of choice. Mobydock seems to have ambitions of really pushing the GUI of XP and if DX9 makes for more features and/or stability I for one am happy Moby is willing to take the time to play around with a RC version. Many programmers would not consider trying this approach in favor of working in an enviroment they feel cozy in.
In all honesty, If Moby is able to accomplish what he is setting out for, I will probably replace the explorer shell with Mobydock and Objectbar.
Like everyone else has said, take your time Moby...I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Yeah moby..but I'll need to check the CPU usage of each dock to see which one runs better.....I do not have a powerful system so CPU usage is an issue for me....and with Y'z 0.31 well I think that's the least CPU utilization you can get.
I understand that you're mag effect eats more CPU cycles (and looks cooler albeit inaccurate) but I need to use my system to work and functionality is as important as the look of the dock...

O....
Of course it doesn't...well there you have it...I'm sure we can count on Y'z not going to DX9 anytime soon then!
one other thing Moby if your still out there... Mr. Y has apparently said he would not ever incorperate the genie effect into his dock...do you share his view or will you possibly put in transition effects later down the road?
just curious on your stance.

Since we all post our desires about the next dock in this group, here's mine:
Is it easy to have multilingual support for the font being used?
I don't mind having all my icon labels in english but date (clock label) is written in greek and doesn't display correctly with Arial font.
Minor bug, won't keep me from hovering over mobydock

It's a nice thought but very doubtful. Y's dock is optimized for WindowsXP. Mobydock can run in Windows98. Mr. Yamaguchi does not speak English, and Moby doesn't speak Japanese.
Mr. Yamaguchi has done other programs and I'm not even sure if he had ever collaborated with anybody. It just does not seem likely at all. Like painters programmers also have their own ideas and have a particular way of expressing that through code. The fact that he only allows Marvilla to be his spokeperson to the English world is just another characteristic of not being open for a collaborative work. This is just my thought.
