Look at Y'z Dock...it's magnification effect is not as good as the mobydock's but it uses only about 40 % of my CPU and looks pretty damn good especially when put on the sides

the upcoming features:
1) Adding Bouncing icons
2) Fixed jagged icons while zooming
3) Side docks
4) always on top trigger
5) Fixed Drag n Drop feature
6) advanced and efficiant engine to run the dock FASTER.
7) CPU usage
and some other REALLY cool stuff.
It will be out soon
Edit --> Sid, actually the zooming effect in Yz, is a lil more similar to the OSX one, as much as the zooming effect in the moby dock is awesome

I see....I wouldn't know coz I've never really had a chance to work on the real OS X....but I like them both....Also I feel that Y'z Dock is more stable than the MobyDock..
Goku, it would be really awesome if Moby could incorporate all those features into the next release of the dock...would be looking forward to the bouncing icon effect....

Don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining about the dock, I'm just saying that whatever Moby implements in his dock should bring it closer to the functionality of the OS X dock which is even more important than how the dock looks.

Anyway, I'm one of the few here who has access to the real dock (Jaguar). So if anyone needs help or info, just let me know.
Hmmm... is there a way for Moby and Y to work together? I'm sure that the result would be fantastic!

Celeron 500mhz (maxes out at 70% cpu usage), 384 ram, ati radeon 7000 oc'd to 166mhz clock and 32mb mem. win xp pro sp1.
this is my test machine, it runs even better (a lot better) on my other two pc's with 1ghz+
only thing that bugs me is the way it cuts off the text and icons sometimes, oh well.

I think he means moby and Y the people.
as in moby and Y work together to create the ultimate dock.
right....silly me. i thought he wanted to run both docks simultaneously....(that would be interesting though)
anywayz I think it would be great if Moby and M. Yamaguchi could work together on a dock.....that would be great...moby you listening to me??? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

Anyways...I just wanted to add my testimonial for the docks in general. I've tried both Moby, Y's and Icemans dock and so far I like Icemans the best (though it does require desktop x to run). I used moby dock and I like it a lot and it sure as hell is easier to edit in general than icemans, (though I've figured that out so thats ok) but I don't think its very functional. (and I know I"ll probably get yelled at I realize that moby isn't intending to make his dock an exact copy of macintoshes) I know moby wasn't working on making a completley realistic dock and thats ok he did a great job! For me the dock works perfectly once I first run it but then I start to use it and my CPU percentage for some reason gets to 100% almost immediatley! Its really wierd! I don't have a slow computer either! (Pentium 4 2.53 GHz and 512 PC800 RDRAM 80 GB Hard Drive...its very recent). Things start to really slow down and I don't know why. Like I said before, I am using icemans dock right now and making icons for it (or editing them at least) and while they take awhile it is making me a lot happier. For instance I am making what I like to call "icon menu's" where you pause over an icon and other icons pop up above it...trust me its cool and you can't do that with Moby's (yet! hopefully you can do them in the future as well as bouncing (because wierd people like me think thats cool)). Also I've found that my cpu percentage doesn't get more than 10/15% with this dock so it works perfectly.
Also I just found how to convert Mac Icons to PC so I'm doing a lot of those and resizing them (128, 96, 72, 64, 48, 32, and 16 px) so they can work well on all reso
lutions.
I do have one question...I'm running 1280 * 1024 resolution right now and I want my icons larger once I finish them (either 64 * 64 or 72 * 72 px) Does anyone know how I can get all my windows icons this large?
I'm also happy to see you guys are using Invision Board...I used to be on the team there and helped out with the forums...there are a great bunch of guys over there

welcome mdz,
first, desktopX is barely used anymore..
Im pretty much sure most people in our community, or at least the vetern ones, dont use desktopx anymore and as much as the quality can be great its far from being a comparison to the new docks. but then again, if u enjoy it nowadays - its great i guess
Second, regarding the benchmarks on your system - congratulations, nice high-end piece you got there, and im glad to see someone besides the lonely-wolf-me with RDRAM (i have 512 as well
Regarding the icons, - if u wanna make your system to have 72x72 (assuming you have XP)- you should go to display properties, appearance, advanced and in the ITEM drop menu choose ICON - so now you can set it to 72.
take care, and once again, welcome

I thought that was the way to do it but I wasn't sure if anything else was needed
I might eventually write a dock in C++ if I figure out how to do it but as long as other people are working on them thats fine with me. The feature I like the most with desktop x is the fact that I can make icon menu's with it (have other icons pop up over one I move over, which is nice). Another thing that is annoying with icemans dock is the fact that I have to make the zoom images and bouncing images...but if thats what I have to do for low cpu usage I will do it. I think that the best dock would be a flash dock ecxept no-one has one that works now
