Introducing public beta 2 of the Winstep Nexus Dock

Posted Image

The Winstep Nexus dock is a FREE, stand alone, version of the Nexus dock that is part of the Winstep Xtreme suite of applications, although it has no support for multi-docks and multi-level sub-docks, unlike its bigger 'cousin' in Winstep Xtreme.

As it happens with all betas in order to prevent you from continuing on using potentially buggy software, Nexus beta 1 expired on August 1.

Unfortunately the beta 2 release had to be delayed until July 30 for the new language translations to be ready. Because of this, for some people the release date was too close to the expiration date for the Winstep Update Manager to pick it up on time and upgrade automatically.

Apologies to all those who got the 'This Beta has expired' message.

Since beta 2 is nearly feature complete and the previous beta 2 preview release was rather extensively tested with no serious bugs found, it was decided NOT to include time out code on this beta. This said, it's always a good idea to leave the Winstep Update Manager enabled and to upgrade whenever a new version becomes available.

Nexus 9.7 beta 2 adds a lot of the features requested by users of the first Nexus beta and fixes all reported bugs.

New features in Nexus beta 2:

  • Icon Spacing.
  • Running Indicators.
  • Icon Locking.
  • Optional full right-click context menus.
  • Ability to rename modules/docklets.
  • Better handling of icon reflections on vertical docks.
  • Customizable left, middle and right click actions for list of running programs.
  • Container folders of shortcuts in the dock can be browsed via the right click context menu.
  • Faster startup time.
  • More themes included by default.
  • Five more languages supported: Spanish, Swedish, Farsi, Norwegian, Polish.

Nexus Features:

  • Live icon reflections.
  • Dock magnification, swing, bounce, afterglow and many other incredible mouse over effects.
  • Water ripple, fluid surface, fluid reflections and many more dock animation effects.
  • Automatic Vista glass blur for semi-transparent dock backgrounds.
  • Dock auto-hide and auto-collapse to take up as little screen space as possible.
  • Built-in clock, weather, recycler, fortune cookie reader, email checker, net, cpu and ram meter docklets/widgets.
  • Over 80 useful internal commands.
  • Ability to prevent maximized windows from overlapping the dock.
  • Supports drag & drop of virtual file system objects (My Computer, Control Panel, etc...).
  • Completely customizable - thousands of backgrounds freely available.
  • Fully compatible with skins for all other docks.
  • Full drag & drop support with extremely easy to use and intuitive interface.
  • Multi language support (supported languages on this beta: English, Farsi (Persian), French, German, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish).

I think you should add an option similar to the one from ObjectDock:
Avility to hide off-screen ONLY when a window is maximized and show on-top at any other instance.

I find this feature very useful and it's the only thing that prevents me from switching to another dock.
