If you have latest version of Wordpress i.e. 2.8.x, you should not have any worries. However you can make the "wp-admin" directory password protected to add an extra layer of security to wordpress admin panel.

One of the best things about Word Press is its huge community of developers. Whatever functionality you can dream of, probably a plugin will accomplish it for you. However, installing the wrong plugins – or even too many of the right ones – can be bad for your site.

Make sure you don't use Admin as a user name, and also don't install unnecessary plugins, because hackers mostly try to find backdoor through unsecured plugins.

Securing your WordPress blog is the most important thing that you must do after you have set it up on your server. There shouldn’t be any reason for you to leave your WordPress wide open for hackers to creep in and steal your information and/or destroy your data... Your wp-admin folder contains all the important information and it is the last place that you want to give access to others. Use AskApache Password Protect to password protect the directory and give access right only to authorized personnel...
