Ok, I've just about finished dealing with the abomination that is "VistaOSX '09." Even still, I can't get rid of EVERYTHING from it, although I have gotten most of it out.

Now, I still want a mac-like style. I don't like Aero, and I need a dock.

Are there any SAFE skins out there for Vista? I don't want something that is going to nearly kill Windows when I try to get rid of it, or takes hours of work to weed out the remaining files. I want something that's a simple install and uninstall. Nothing more.

Is there a skin like this out there, or am I just stuck with the normal Vista look?

I don't have Vista, but here are some suggestions:
1) Window Blinds
2) KSoft Styler for Windows
3) Findexer
4) Finderbar or Objectbar
5) XwindowsDock

Be Advised!: I don't know if these programs are compatible with Vista or not. I'm on XP and they all work perfect. I would not expect the same results if I were you, because I've heard a lot of incompatibility issues.

Anyway, I hope it works for you dude.

findeXer is working fine for me with Vista.. I just can't change the background color, but the actual column with shortcuts is there.

Have had no problems :)

I'm looking for the same thing... But finding a visual style for Vista is quite difficult..
I'm not satisfied with most styles, especially not VistaOSX'09 (sorry).

Currently I'm just using sth very nice and neutral (not "Maccy" though): Transblack on deviantart.

I'm running Vista SP1 32 bits

- ZEUZ OS X themes, for the windows styles (the best ones for vista, there's even brushed themes)
- I got FindeXer too, without problems!! I works pretty well (the last update)
- U can always keep somme .dll from Vista OS X'09 like imageres.dll (icons and boot and shut screens), authui.dll (apple at the start), browseui.dll - themeui.dll - uxtheme.dll (for applicating .Theme files)
- I use QTTabBar for the mac's tabs and the background list look
- AveDesk for havid the shortcuts from the drives in the desktop
- RKLauncher
- Switcher (Mac's exposé clon)
- VISTA/XP virtual desktop (Spaces clon)
- FinderBar (it's free!!!!!!)
- Mozilla Firefox with a safari skin
- Ave Preview
- An a lot more ;)

FindeXer :http://tomseffect.com/

U choose between ur system kind (32nits or 64 bits), Don't forget you have tio download Microsoft’s latest C Runtime Libraries C++ which can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en

For looking like Mac's Finder check this : http://www.markraats.com/FinderXer_Tutorial.htm

Hope this helps U! ;)

problem with zeuz osx is that, its not osx like at all, ive seen windowblinds themes more accurate then it, but those themes have too many bugs

the closest theme i got to mac osx was leopard V, which came with a navigation button theme, leftsider buttons, and all, just that the max/min/close buttons were off set

Hi guys!!

I almost forget, here two links for a more realistic style:

- For having the buttons (min/max/close) in the left side : http://hsiw.web.fc2.com/
- For having the roll option (the window roll into its title bar), besides transparent windows : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Other-Desktop-Enhancements/WinRoll.shtml

Let me know if ur having a problem!

It's not a styler bar, it's just a theme from Zeus OSX, the buttons are not fonctional!

I know Vista OSX is a mess, but someone made it less of a mess:

http://patrickgs.deviantart.com/art/Vista-...-09-VS-71496545

He got the Visual Style out of the installer, and that's the style there. I've been messing around with the style for a few days now, and it's completely safe. It looks great. Here are two programs I suggest.

LeftSider: http://www.askvg.com/leftsider-move-window...l-free-utility/
RocketDock: http://www.rocketdock.com

RocketDock

RocketDock is a free dock program. You'll need at least 10MB RAM free to run it though. If you're on a decent enough PC, you likely will have this. Now, you'll want icons and stuff, won't you? So, here are two of the best things for you:

Stacks Docklet: http://rocketdock.co...n/docklets/1791
Apple Mac OS X Skin: http://rocketdock.com/addon/skins/4939
Custom Icons: http://rocketdock.co...don/icons/21465

There are other skins and things as well, but those two should be fine, at least until you want a new look for your PC. Here's a link tot the OS X icons (.ico), so they won't work on your RocketDock: http://www.indowebster.com/IconPack_iVista...Icons_Pack.html

Having difficulty adding skins or icons to your dock? Check out the tutorial I made:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwqCeR_svAk...re=channel_page

It works the exact same way with icons, you just do it with the 'Icons' folder.

Mac Finder

I know people might suggest WinMac or whatever. I tried this program, and I didn't like it, to be honest. I suggest you get a program such as Launchy, and put the icon on your dock. Change the icon to the Finder icon above, and change the name to 'Finder'. It won't look like the Finder when you click on it, but it'll look good anyway.

Launchy: http://download.cnet.com/Launchy/3000-2248....html?tag=mncol
Finder Icon: http://rubayeet.files.wordpress.com/2009/0...w=283&h=300

Font Rendering

Whether you knew this or not, the Mac uses a different font rendering style to Windows. I'm not sure what the Mac method is called, but the Windows font rendering is called 'ClearType'. If you open Safari 3 in Windows you'll see the Mac font rendering (not Safari 4). You can change the Windows font rendering with a program called GDI++, should you want to.

GDI++ is free, but it's hosted on a Japanese website. You can mess around with it, till you find something you like. Use it at your own risk. One of my anti virus programs said it was trying to 'Modify a system file'. This is true and false. It temporarily changes a .dll in Windows to make the font rendering happen. You can GDI++ off whenever you want though.

I hope this helps you. There are many other programs you might like for your Microsoft Mac (what I call Windows emulating Mac OS X), but I haven't used most of them. Besides, what I've given you should get you off to a good start.#

I hope this giant post helps :)
