I’ve found somewhere in this forum a small app called VolumeTray by GlorySoft. In my opinion it is the best of the available programs of this kind (or maybe I simply don’t know the better one – I would appreciate any suggestions), as it is quite stable, adds and
1. It adds a system tray icon that reacts to the volume changes;
2. It gives easy access to the Windows’ volume control panels;
3. It consumes much less memory than similar apps;
4. It is very stable;
5. It is skinnable;
6. It can start with Win (I couldn’t do it with Landvermesser’s MacSound, which otherwise is great).
Though it lacks the vertical slider, I use it together with AveScripter OSX Volume and the effect seems to me quite good - I like it more than anything else.
The native Aqua skin looks rather ugly, so I remade it – the zip file below contains “OSX” folder, simply copy it to VolumeTraySkins dir, after reloading the program it will be visible.
The homepage of this project seems to be closed, the app can be still found, but I included it also in the zip.

Upload fixed. I used 3rvx, but it crashed too often. Besides, VolumeTray uses less RAM.

I use it very long time. This is last update beta, but stable.
Already mac stylish by me. No need to install, just copy and run it.

That's great! I would use it, but... is there any way to change the language?

Both versions very unstable. Never had unstability with 3rvx though. But I use your icons. Thanks.

Bjorn: maybe it depends on the system conf.
mr_Drew: I've reshacked the exe file to change the tray menu to English, but I cannot read anything in the settings window. Could you post a screen with readable text, please? Can be in Russian.

Here it is, for anyone interested. The English version, thought not perfect, as I couldn't find tabs' captions. Mr_Drew, could you check the translation? My Russian is far from being perfect... BTW: is there any similar app to replace the Network connection tray icon? I don't like the idea of changing system files; last time I did it, the results were rather... poor

Features of forgot to point out that you can adjust the volume by move the mouse over to twist the wheel.
