humm, you said =>"Some indicators look better in front"

this is a little bit evasive... in front of what???

so please show us right now with an example why you would like to choose instead of debate. As the noob skinner and deskmodder i am, i would like to see something concrete.

In front of the icons... to cast lights and stuff

I dont want to choose instead of debate; I want it as a configurable option. Cool down.

@Layer Cake:

1. As can be seen from the attached image, icons already overlay running indicators;
2. AndrewYY is completely right: cool down, will you?

definitely not....... you two are telling errors. you two misunderstand... like the time i have posted a request about a top reflection and you didn't see any difference..... so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... give me a break

Same indicator with xwd 5.4, pic, taken on MY pc, with a skin I made.

and PS: My first post about this, was merely a request to ADD a possibility and not TAKE OFF a possibilty. Then i let bobah interpret and do the best he can, and i'm not worried about that.

So what is your stammer about????? Hope you'll understand this time.

Well for starters, people don't like you demanding stuff from them :slant:

Take a look at the "pirate" dock or whatever it was called back in the early stages of xwd... That casted light.
In fact, my theme casts light as well o_O just not a lot of it.

The cast light looks fake-ish since it's not blending with blend modes, but it works for most things. Then there are indicators like those rings that have to go under the icon.

So far from it. This is not useless work for Bobah. This is a feature for skin designers to possibly exploit ;)

It does indeed add possibilities. The problem is, it also takes off possibilities. So what's wrong with having both? Why insist only your way when clearly other ways are possible? Why is your world exploding? :P

PS: If no action is taken, having indicators on top is best. Take a look at Panta's post to see why.

Take your graph right now and port it for xwd 5.4 and show us a pic. time to do it: 3 minutes.

So to conclude: is it enough now or this will take 3 more page on the thread?

Q.E.D.

Seriously, I hear what you're saying, you're saying indicators should go under the icons. What the heck is wrong with letting the skinner choose whether they go over or under the icons in the config file?! *exasperated sigh*

Edit: (calmed down now ;)) I don't understand your argument that indicators have to go under because there are benefits with leaving them on top (you don't even need proof, just think of the possibilities with indicators over the icons. For one, that way the reflections don't cover 'em up)

you spend your life in front of your pc waiting for an answer ?? What you don't understand in this???

if i make a request to add something, so the finish line is to have both choice. It is mathematic.

@Layer Cake: Please cool down! Seriously! Nobody is offending you, but you seemed really pissed, i don't understand why. Please take it slow.

There is no right or wrong here, of course Indicators in front of the Icons can create nice effects too, just like indicators behind them. I have no example, because I don't know any Dock where this is possible. But i have some ideas, what might look pretty cool: A foggy, maybe glowing dust-cloud covering the Icon as an Indicator, or a little green flag, or a banderole, or a shiny star in the top left, or a lightning strike, etc.... all these and many more effects could look very nice, if there are in front of the icon.

So AndrewYY's addition to your request was a good idea, no need to offend him and getting unfriendly. You two are pulling in the same direction, so I can't see any problem here.

@AndrewYY: The cleverer gives in.

@Both: such discussions can be done via PM. No need to spam our Request Thread with it.

lol I know I'm politically incorrect but... I'm proud of it! :D

Seriously tho: even more important imho is the rule of thumb that, if you have a problem/wanna know something in a forum, you ought to search before asking, unless you're open to receive what I just gave him... ;)

ps: I'll certainly read it latter; thanks! :D

nicely put andrew. i'm usually bummed when mods push their weight around. i think it takes away from the work put in by the devs for no fault of theirs.

Meh. I'm used to it. Forums generally have oodles of newbies who can't think for themselves. Wikipedia decided to treat them nice, so why couldn't it apply here ;)

I'm with Andrew and Periferral here, I think you are a little bit too harsh to our newcomers. If they don't follow the rules, you can of course tell this to them, but this can be done in a nice way. We should try to welcome newcomers warm.

Why not something like "Hey, your first post, welcome to this forum! To your question: it has been asked before, you can try to use the forum-search to find the answer. If you are still having trouble, just as ask again." Just more of :) instead of :slant: (btw: I don't think this smiley isn't helpful in your "moved"-line, too. But you are already using it less now, i think.)

I'll jump in here.
It takes the moderators long enough moving/deleting and generally keeping the forum flowing well without having to lead new member by the hand to the search function.
I'm a great believer in the proverb.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
The search function as far as I'm concerned not used enough, most questions have been asked before (especially within this forum) and it's normally just lazy people who either can't be bother searching or again want things handed on a plate.
We'll consider this subject closed for the time being. Lets move on.
