It's not Apple's news, but it's news, isn't it? :)

Download the Windows 7 Beta Here

After pulling the beta Friday night, Microsoft's come back with it, while extending its availability from 2.5 million downloads to January 24th. This beta will work up to August.

Anyone here installed it yet? I have, and I'm loving it a lot. Except for the few minor problems caused on my part.

Lucky & unlucky me...installed it the 2nd day it was "leaked" and falled in love with it 30min after running it!

then all hell broke loose. It cut off several seconds of all my 4Gb worth of MP3 files...

Apart from that, IT IS AMAZING! way better than the V word. Windows 7 runs smoother and, "copied" a lot from OS X finder navigation design. Good "copying" this time. :P

REMINDER: MAKE SURE TO INSTALL THE MP3 CUT-OFF FIX after Windows 7 beta installation. It turns out M$ hasn't put the fix in the "official" release after all, since all MD5 and SHA1 values are exactly the same as the "leaked" beta 7000.

Well, I'm using it since 5 days now, gotta say I've been using V. and my laptop was making so much noise, even when it was clean (no WB, no skins, no docks). After 20 mins of installation, W7 starts in about 14 seconds which is unbelievable (!) I swear, and works so silent, it's crazy. New superbar takes a lot from both Mac and Linux systems, it is really useful. Anyway, after those 5 days I turned on XWindows Dock on it, and it works extremely faster than on Vista which is also nice. But, I can't figure out where "Windows Calendar" and "Windows Mail" disappeared :)

Haven't you heard? On Win7 they're cutting out PhotoGallery, Mail, Calendar, and many other things to improve performance. And if users really want them, they're gonna ask manufacturers to place a link on the desktop to download the WindowsLive applications. In my opinion I think that's a great idea.

Well, from what I've read (from PCWorld and the web) they said they weren't gonna include it anymore. Well it's still the beta so it really doesn't matter.

Looks like Windows has finally come to challenge the cult of the mac. It looks smooth and all amazingness that Vista was most certainly not. But the problem is all touch functonality would come on a computer that is quite expensive, possibly even more so than a mac and that the software will be rediculously price to install on bootcamp. So it seems mac's are not as expensive compared to windows as they sometimes appear. Mac's OS is still better looking and the software thats included in mac os x is completely the tiebreaker. BUT when Snow Leopard is released maybe we will be a little suprised by what mnew core architecture can change and how much better we think mac is still compared to windows.

I've just installed Windows 7 on my iMac, and I must say it's the first time I'm impressed with a windows. They did a serious job on that one, that's for sure. I'm considering buying my first windows license if it keeps being that good. It won't replace Mac OS, that's for sure, but it feels fresh, speedy, and even stable o_0.

reason of keeping windows was always games and now for me studies - programming in c++, but it feels like I'm finally happy off my win-laptop. seriously. can you imagine that asus machine, with 1ghz+, 2gb ram, nvidia go 9600, 300gb HD was making so much noise, the fan was working all the time even without nothing installed, just vista. and now? silence.

i think that's good. better to have nothing if you anyway will decide to use thunderbird :) coz windows live is kinda hmmm nice but for me its design is hard to read, hard to see.
bad, that they left windows calendar, because it was not so bad, and integrating it into mail is kinda forcing me to use mail.
funny, I've installed so much stuff, and still starting fast as rocket. I would say 'how they did it?'

Pushing the Windows button + spacebar makes the windows all glass.
Anyone have an idea as to what this is for?

EDIT: Apparently it gives you a clear view of the desktop, allowing you to see your gadgets.
