Hi I only just signed up, I'm probably gonna stick around to. I recently designed my site mockup in photoshop and I was wondering what you guys thought of it? FYI its meant to be a blog.

I think you should make the distance between the to boxes a little smaller and yes the purple looks a little bit disturbing ;) Oh, also make the distance beetween the right box and the bottom as big as on the right side

i would change the header and footer color to a lighter color (as you already think you are) the other changes i would make are:
the distance between the content boxes are inconsistent (e.g the distance from the content box to the top menu bar should be the same distance as from the left ... i would also consider changing the color of the content area background (the dark grey) to a lighter shade, as at the moment there is far too much dark grey in the middle and you loose contrast

I eventually decided to keep the purple but I'm gonna have two versions so those that like clean design can use a light blue and white design and those that have similar tastes to me can use the purple and grey / black design

You need to make a flowchart of your website. If you don't know how to make a flowchart then you need to hire someone to make one for you.

But that is only step #1. You should find a company or an independant design specialist to hire - depending on your budget.

Why?
Why not just do it yourself, the actual HTML isn't hard, all you need is a good design sense.
