I've ran Flyakite 3.5 before...but recently I had an "oh sh*t" moment and installed a bad program, so I had to reformat.
So, I installed Flyakite on a clean drive and now I am having problems with updating my windows. I like to keep my windows updated and now it says that it cannot install updates b/c I do not have a core windows file. I assume that flyakite has altered whatever file it is looking for.
I love flyakite and want to continue using it...so I would rather not take it off. Does anyone know a fix or workaround for this? I would appreciate it a great deal!
Thanks-

I uninstalled all of the system files and rebooted...but, no luck. But, I did figure out that is not ALL updates that I can't get...just SP3. Did I read somewhere on here that SP3 is bad for flyakite anyways?

Probably. Old uxtheme won't work for it, is all I can imagine, you'd just have to patch afresh.
(FAK uninstaller is notoriously bad, did you try your systemrestore point?)

No, I havn't tried the restore point.
Is their a current version of the uxtheme? What did you mean when you mentioned that?

Start->Run->tipe -> cmd -> Enter , and (tipe one by one):
Regsvr32 WUAPI.DLL
Regsvr32 WUAUENG1.DLL
Regsvr32 ATL.DLL
Regsvr32 WUPS2.DLL
Regsvr32 WUCLTUI.DLL
Regsvr32 WUPS.DLL
Regsvr32 WUWEB.DLL
Regsvr32 WUAUENG.DLL
of course, after each commands click "Enter",
then update windows.

I meant that SP3 needs an SP3 uxtheme, FAK has an SP2 one.
(They're exactly the same, it's just version info checking, so you could easily reshack it yourself, but it's easier to get a premade one from the internet.

Davordg- I did that exactly as you said and it went well...but, no change with Windows update.
Phoshi- I did the uxtheme.dll route and it screwed up my windows...atleast until I went in in safe mode and fixed it back.

Just replacing the file with the patched version shouldn't hurt, unless you used the wrong version <_<
wait. You don't have SP3, why are you putting an sp3 uxtheme in?!

lol.
I guess seeing as it's a new install anyway, you could reinstall windows and update beforehand?
(Updating to SP3 will probably screw up most of FAK anyway)

Yeah, I could...sigh...but I just hate reformatting.
What parts of FAK would it screw up?
I had FAK on my system before and had installed SP3 before installing FAK...but of course that was on a machine that had never been reformatted before (up until my *oh shit* moment the other day) and it ran great...but one thing that I do notice now that it is on my machine now w/o SP3 is that the Shell dll file actually works and my windows have a leopard menu. But, that is really the only thing I have noticed. But, then again...I may be missing some...I dunno...
Is FAK still being actively updated? Is their planes for an SP3 version? If so, I could simply wait on updating my windows with SP3. SP2 has done just fine thus far...

Hi Goldfishflakes,
Running Flyakite on XP SP3 is absolutely NO problem at all, if you go about it correctly.
I've written a simple "recipe", which can guide you through the process. The recipe is here:
http://aqua-soft.org...st.php?p=503793
Hope this helps.

what I mean is SP3 will probably overwrite a lot of the system files FAK patches, resulting in a silly look. A reinstall would fix that.
