Hi there,

The one and only goal of this topic is to make sure the problems I got with MobyDock are commons and in the same thought, give the author (if he ever comes here) some feedback about his nice app !

:o ) if I ever trash something through the dock, it won't work anymore... it still grow/shrink but I'm no longer able to launch an app from it...

:o ) memory leaks : longer you use it, bigger it becomes in RAM... So I kill it and restart it at least twice a day... Delete() ?

Does everybody know it's built for those who have a good Video Adapter ?
I'm running it on a Duron 1000, with PC100 DIMMs and a (the BIG point) GeForce-4 MX 460.
In Low resolution, it runs smooth as a native Apple Application... no lag and no frame skip. Even while running Photoshop 7 over a couple other apps... It shows how it has been developped to uses hardware capabilities : Excellent (for us who have the hardware ;))

Suggestions for the developper :

:D ) The "click" sensitive zone is small, and should be (my point of view) at least 4/5 of the reserved space (so the zone grows as the icon does) (4/5)*(actual icon width)

:D ) implements right click instead of properties automatically (I strongly suggest an external app which will connect to the dock to allow config) as well as external apps for restarting and stoping it... (could be the same with args...) - removing the no-longer-needed Properties Panel...

:D ) Use SHFileOperation to handle Trash operations

:D ) Implements "kind of" system variables so we can refer to "X:\Program Files", "X:\Windows", etc... automatically. Reverse look-up could even be instancied so the portability of configs would be transparent...

:D ) Offers a basic mode for those having not an "Alpha Blending Hardware Handler" so they can use it without using 100% CPU @ each hover...

Need a hand on Web/Perl-CGI/dhtml/Photoshop/VB-ASP/Tweaks&Tricks ?
Feel free to ask me... the pleasure will be mine to give a hand !

I see the same problem you see with adding something to the trash and then the dock becomes "inactive"...the icons will grow and shrink, but you can no longer launch anything. BTW this happens for me when I drag an item to any folder on the dock, not just the trash.

hi,

1. dropping files on icons makes the dock somehow inactive. known bug. already fixed in internal build.

2. i profiled mobydock with boundschecker. no leaks at all. maybe related to leaks in MS Gdi+-API (that is known) i use in some parts of the mobydock. there is an update from MS for some of the problems !

3. i use SHFileOperation to manage the trash (what makes you think i do not ??)

4. cpu-usage is more related to resizing ! that won't help VERY much !

anyway, thanks for the suggestions,

moby
