hmm.. you may indeed need to consider having a portable version for only XP and an installer for Vista.

It's not that big of deal for me if it's portable. I like portable apps and prefer them over installers but it's not an absolute requirement for me. However, it is nice when you are following development of an application that's being updated frequently and in 'beta' stage, that the program does not require an installer as you can just delete the folder and launch the new build each time. With an installer, people get jittery with the multiple updates that need to happen with each release, I guess.

I understand that TopDesk is both a Portable app AND works with XP & Vista basic. Other than that, I do not know if an expose clone that does what yours and TopDesk does for both Operating Systems.

by the way, your post over at winmatrix sounds exciting. I'm suprised your thread isn't getting more action over here. You should edit your first comment and post a screenshot of your newest build, and maybe a screenshot of your Options window.

Happy programming devrexster! And thanks for doing this :)

I was thinking about a new thread ?!
should I do it or not I dont know!
actually I am so new to these forums that I dont know the norms

but i want to inform people about the functionalities of this new expose clone
which infact gives much more features than any till date
( i dont think topdesk gives interactive windows and mine IS FREE )

infact it would be better if someone else posted a thread about it to let people know :)
and looked after the thread. i am here only so no problem about querries from anyone.
coz I am turning out to be messy in these posting and threading :(

you don't need a new thread. The title's pretty clear. I think some screenshots would be well received. A news poster will come around soon enough. maybe.

Oh, and simply post a link to the download (your deviantart entry.)

I had an opportunity to try your application out. I like it so far :)
I have one suggestion up front though.
Can you implement hotkey support? Being able to assign a key combination or press F9 for instance, to expose windows would encourage me test this out more. The reason is, I use stroke-it (mouse gestures) and map them to, for instance F9 and can activate the expose funtion thusly. It will provide users more ways of using your program conveniently.

Thanks in advance for considering this suggestion.

Leon

I have downloaded your application but when I tried to install I got a error that said I needed to include msvcr70.dll file to use with the application. I did download it and put in the system folder and the installation folder and then the error message came up again -during installation it gave another error that said I need to have more installation files to complete the installation -it stopped at 50 percent and then closed so I am stuck -what do I do? I have Windows XP Sp3 beta version
What other info would you need to help me solve this problem?

firecracker, read the readme there already are assigned hotkeys.

Nicely done. A tad slow but, it's early and the animation is nice. Also, the first one to display the Gimp properly. Thanks. :D

Wow, yeah, the virus alert is a big no-no. I don't care if it's a 3rd party app from joe schmoe or a multi-million dollar company - if it alerts me to a possible virus then it's not going on this computer. It'd be safe to assume there are many more people out there that think the same thing.

There are ways of programming in which you will not get this virus alert.

Once you get it the virus alert problem under control I might give it another try but until then WinExpose' does exactly the same thing and will remain on the computer instead.

well Winexpose doesnt give interactive previews i think
and also perhaps has not been ported to vista yet !

but that apart can u tell me what antivirus u r using

also have a look here (provided by ojalord)

http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/2af4bd5...13c8637d08ad194

to understand that its a false positive from a bloated av that u r getting

Don't understand the virus thing because I run both Avast and Comodo AV (the second is passed from command line) and there were no flags.

Hi kftrainer,

its not an error its only a warning to make sure the app works.
it is being shown to everyone not just u.

but why it stops midway in ur comp I cant tell.
maybe just try again. But the other error is maybe because some system files are missing or what?!
I am as confused with ur problem as u are :D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi sirsmiley,

it only gets reported in avg and panda which are known for their false positives
this app has been around for 4 days now and u can ask anybody who is using it
to clarify.

also have a look at the virustotal link I provided

I myself was an avid avg user untill I made a research from various reviews and ratings
of top software sites and have settled with kaspersky internet security suite

if u have the chance of ever looking into the about dialog of avg then u will see
it uses the engine from kaspersky labs ( also f-secure and zonealarm etc use kaspersky's engine)

I know what I wrote and I am telling u it is absolutely a false +ve. :)

yes but some crap people wont believe until it has not been approved by their crap wares
whatever we tell them :(

so I uploaded the newest version

people interested who were getting crap warnings before , can try the new file
and I am tired of this "virus" gimmick so please be supportive by posting the results
from your crap "antivirus"-wares here

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
edit: and as ojalord suggested here are the results from virustotal

Sorry, but calling 'my' antivirus crap is...a going a little too far. I hate to say, but no matter how great your program might be you've certainly lost a tester here.

I wish you all the luck but bagging a person choice in software because it did its job and alerted to a possible problem is just not on.

devrexster
the system file I was speaking of was msvcr70.dll and the dialog box told me to make sure I have this file in the installation folder -I downloaded it and put the file in my system folder and also the installation folder. and it still gave me that error message then later on it just quit at 50 percent completion
- Tell me how many files should be in the installation folder?
I hope that clears it up for you.
Thanks
Kirk

What is your antivirus? According to Virustotal, in the latest fixed version, only Panda and eSafe flag it. Before fixing, AVg was part of that list too. Since it is widely known that AVG and Panda give a lot of false positives, why not simply accept that and move ahead?

On my system, Nod32 didn't even sigh when I ran this app. And any antivirus that gives too many false positives is just bad programming on their part.

hi kftrainer,
actually if u already had microsoft c runtime, u dont need the dll or to have it in the
installation directory. U just need to know whether u have the runtime or not.
also hav u changed the default installation directory?
u may try by not changing it
as far as I percieve the package is working for most people and there are no files missing IN it
u may try the newer one uploaded yesterday at the main post

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, sranshaft,

u can make out how u would feel when somebody reports u made a "virus" when
u absolutely know u didnt .
just for the mistake of people making those antiviruses this issue has come up and
i had to rework my code to fit according to the mistakes of some people
I lost my cool and if I have hurt u I am sorry! :(
but I still stand by what I said ,these antiviruses are crap.
