Hi everyone!

Well, we're trying to revive newsposting, and I'm creating this thread to get an idea of who's interested in helping out.

We have a new system in place, where you're basically just creating new threads in a special forum, and the contents of these threads will be automatically grabbed and placed on the front page.

Make sure your grasp of English and BBCode is strong enough that you'd feel comfortable doing this. It's not likely that we'll accept members with a July join date or an extremely low post count, simply as a preventive measure--maybe next time, sorry guys!

I have yet to decide if we'll be doing only daily news/postings, or something more elaborate. Take a look at the current front page to get a sense of what the daily posts used to be like.

Even if you're not interested in joining, feel free to provide any suggestions or ideas!

Thanks,
-nightcrawler1089

P.S: If I've already sent you a PM, you don't have to post in this thread.

I'm interested in helping get this going. I keep fairly up to date on new apps and tech news. PM me with the details of what newsposting entails if you'd like me helping out.

I'm currently torn between this and devoting some time to the Wiki. I feel drawn to the latter.

If you're low on people, I wouldn't mind helping out. My RSS feeds are full of Apple news sites.

I don't know if it could be done or if it would be useful, but I imagine a "suggest" button similar to the report button might make life a whole lot easier for newsposters?

And if you're looking for someone to post completely irrelevant and potentially misleading news, I'm all in.

Thanks guys, I'll take all this into consideration and try and act on it tomorrow. Other members should feel free to post as well! ;)

I imagin your looking for more wellknown/popular members, but If you start getting desperate; I could pitch in, I'm constantly kicking around this site board waiting for new posts, It'd be nice to contribute,

They don't have to be well known members, but just someone who will consistently look out for and post news.

@nightcrawler1089: How about a thumbnail of themes, maybe just the caption buttons?

There's a report button?

---

Are we going to do news as they come along, or do a single "Weekly" type of thing? (If we do the latter, feel free to delete the first one I made.)

//Edit: Weird, it didn't pop-up on the Front Page...

I'll talk to Timan about a "Suggest" idea. The new method we're using means that anyone can compose a News post, even if they're not a newsposter...a kindly mod (:P) would simply move the thread to the proper forum and then everything is automated.

Personally, I imagine that makes more sense than many people "Suggesting" the same thread over and over again.

Just my two cents. I'll let you guys know :).

Hmnn, I'll try to elaborate a little on my suggestion then (and not the second part which you so gracefully ignored).

I think there is a second part to the suggestion that you might be overlooking. What I remember from the last time we had news on this board is primarily that they were focused on the "big newz", the major releases you would have to be pretty unlucky not to have spotted if you browsed the forum a couple of times a month. I'm not sure this "type" of release is particular representative for this place.

So, I thought it might be nice to have some sort of function in place that could increase the probability that the small jewels made to the front page as well.

Just a thought.

ok i might as well try again

how about a digg like system where each release is queued and people increase the "digg" count of the ones they like?

this way crappy releases don't feel left out and the actually good ones get a couple hundred "diggs" without too much editorialization (which will happen inevitably.) or conflicts of interest...
