Hi pcm/all,
none of the weather desklets update the city data properly - not surprising since they all use the same code.

In other words the user has to manually edit the xml file and enter a city code (which he/she has garnered by visiting weather.com).

Its ok for someone technically minded who doesn't change location often, but for the regular user its a pain in the ass.

I've been trying to 'fix' the code, but I'm at a bit of a loss. Anyone care to help??

Many thanks,
garcia.

I'm using AH's-Weather and it works

have you tried clicking the circular arrow at bottom-right of the desklet?

Yes!

Strange thing is it works on my system just occasionally - maybe 5% of the time - the rest of the time it does nothing. I can see network traffic being sent in and out. And if I type the corresponding xml on my browser I get the correct page. But it just defaults back to Montreal (or whatever the default is).

I suspect the problem is something to do with refreshing/updating, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I think you are right - it seems to be a bug in avescripter rather than a problem with the code. I'm using 1.0.5.8 at the moment - I'm going to try upgrading to 1.0.6.1 and see if that helps

Update: OK it worked!!!

The only thing now is that in the drop-down list box you don't the full set of options - e.g. if I type "London" it only shows London - Candada, rather than the full set of options. If you open up the following - http://xoap.weather....re=%22London%22 - you'll see that there are in fact 7 options which should be displayed.

Any ideas??

There was a major bug in the old version of AveScripter. XML stuff didnt get updated correctly.

If you use the "Beta" version it should be ok.

I havent made the beta version official, since it was still being tested and there is just a couple of things I want to release before making it official.

Download the Beta it will fix ALOT of problems and actually be faster and more memory efficent.

As for the London bug, I'll take a quick look at it later tonight and see. Which Desklet is causing it? All of the weather ones? Even the default one that comes with scripter?

Just an update to say everything is fine with the weather desklets. As long as you update your avescripter to the latest beta (available on avedesk.org) you should be able to update the city location fine.

I thought that there was a bug in the city drop-down box, but actually there wasn't.

I was just using the darn thing wrong!! Instead of just typing the search phrase (such as "Paris") I was pressing enter. If you press enter it defaults to the first city and so changes your "search phrase". In the case of "Paris", it becomes "Paris, France" and shows you the 2 weather locations for Paris (the city and the airport).

Thanks for pcm for being so patient and helpful, and apologies for wasting his time.

Garcia.

Easy mistake.

Maybe I should change the default weather so that when you press enter it does a drop down action. If it's possible, I'll check the avedesk sdks
