Do other applications work? Try Windows Media Player.

Stick a pair of headphones in the headphones jack and tell me if you get a lot of feedback/hissing from that...

Are you using multi-plugin with the Foobar passthrough? If you are make sure that the volume setting is set above 0%.

Turn your computer off and give it a few minutes/hours to cool down. I know it's hard, but you can do it :P.

That's always worked for me when I've had sound issues. Really weird, but there you go.

i sicked my father on it.

i can totally whomp him software wise, but he knows most about the hardware on this computer, he configured it when we first got it.

he just did some stuff with the sound drivers and fixed it.

but im still sort of curious why quicktime was still able the play audio.

A few random suggestions which can be tried in case of no sound in iphones:
1. Try updating your drivers.
2. Check in the sound options that the correct sound output is selected. Sometimes there is another default option that might select when it's updated.
3. It may be an incompatibility with another piece of software. On my friend's Vaio, when he opens Fruity Loops he can't play sound out of iTunes, Youtube, or anything else.

Those are the only things I can suggest.

Where is this "volume mixer" you speak of? I also have Vista.
Thank You
