Nice. Any way to show preview images of photos and movies in the main window? :)

hm.. the searchspy systray for me immediately disappears when i start searchspy. only after playing around with the preferences, it shows up.

any idea why this is happening?

edit: nevermind, i found out my shortcut to searchspy had -noicon as a parameter.. =

this is the first spotlight clone that i actually like keeping open, since it can be placed at the bottom :)

is it possible to remove the shadow? and possibly changing the "SearchSpy" text <.<;

Here we go again i fear with a good app that works for some and not for others and for the ones it wont work for we are doomed the spend the next few months asking questions and waiting for little or no help on this forum..is it all worth it i ask myself often.....and then come back for more !
When people spend months developing apps why dont they just spend a few hours writing a few instructions and tips and including it with the program, it would save us all a lot of time.
P.S. thanks for a great app ...........

-Floating button (position anywhere on screen [or dock to taskbar])Great work

I believe what he is asking for is a spotlight icon like in OS X, where it is integrated into the taskbar, not the system tray.

No, I'm asking for a floating button so us objectbar users can use it, too.

Objectbar users can already use it. As stated in the very first post! Just use the parameter -noicon at the end of the shortcut to SearchSpy. So your icon in ObjectBar shortcut would look someting like: Path to SearchSpy/SearchSpyMenu.exe -noicon

Simple, eh? ;)

That being said, I would really like a floating button that could be added to the taskbar like Sean was asking for. One that the user could define which image was used or a default image with the same color-shiftability. Also, I'd like to second the addition of a saturation slider so that we can have grays and whites as well.

Thanks for this great application and we all look forward to its developement!

It does not search. May this happen cause I refuse the prog to connnect to the internet with my zonealarm?
To get it right, I am not a flamer but I want a desktop search only and I don't like it to connect to the internet WHATSOEVER! =(
It should only index and search my hdd, what does it on the web?! Please help, I am looking for a good spotlight clone!

GDS runs as a small webserver on your computer.. so maybe by blocking SearchSpy you have blocked its access to localhost on port 4664 so it cannot query GDS for search results.

No, I don't have GDS installed because of the webaccess and the fact it sends data to the web! But instead I use the local host prog as indexer; SearchSpy actually claims access to internet, no local access! What am I doing wrong?

I imagine how people can get a little paranoid, after all the app's name is Search SPY but the truth is it doesn't claim Internet access, it only wants local access on TCP port 4664, the adress is local:127.0.0.1.
Check it out for yourself. I had the same problem, it didn't return any results, but I had the firewall set to Block most so it didn't ask me. Thanks to you guys now I've enabled local access for it.

And you're wrong TheGent, GDS has a big text red option where it informs you it sends information to the Internet for "customizing your experience" purposes, BUT YOU CAN TURN THAT OPTION OFF! It never asked me to connect to the net, and it has no Internet access configured in my firewall. Check it out, it's a great app.

I can only speak for GDS users and say that SearchSpy does not ask for internet access but like Innova says it only wants access on local TCP port 4664.

I agree that you can stop GDS from accessing the internet- just disable the 'advanced features' and block it using your firewall. Also you may need to stop googledesktopmail asking for internet access by telling it not to index your gmail account.

This program is amazing...unforunately it only works for me when I have gds running. I just installed locate and I really like the small size of the program and the fact that it take up less resources, but searchspy doesn't bring up any results... any ideas why?

Well, I got SearchSpy in Flyakite 3.0 and it worked fine at first. Then, after a few hours, the SearchSpy menu stopped working. I don't know what happened, I had Google Desktop installed, it just stopped finding any results at all. Searching inside the regular SearchSpy window worked, but nothing else did. Does anyone else have that problem?

hmm.. for me it didnt ask for internet zone access, but trusted zone access. maybe set the "search spy.exe" to allow access to the trusted zone?
