@vishesh_l. I am aware of all the bugs despite not having time to fix them. Currently, I'm planing to write a major update late july, but i'm not sure weather I'll have time to or not.
@ kerin. Sorry, you can't.
@deadz13. I'll try to figure out what's happening after.

Hi SPy Gamer, your program is an awesome mimic of spotlight(and it gets my "oo look at me I have a mac!" friends poed!) Well Done!
Well, it worked the first time I ran it and when I rebooted from installing a few programs it didn't work. When I press enter to search it makes mac's "tink" sound, the sound indicating that the action is either disabled or cannot be done. I don't know why this is but maybe you could pm to help me out.

Well, I found out you don't have to press enter to get a search, but what's puzzling me (I have GDv3...well, the latest one) is that it seems to take several seconds (about 15) to show any results. Is there any way to get rid of that delay?
Other than that, I have no problems at all with the program. It works great, looks great. You've done a great job on this.

great clone man, i got one question however, is there anyway you (or anyone else for that matter) could supply me with a zip file containing a .ico file that i can use on my taskbar
OR
is there a way to put the entire searchbar "bar" itself on my taskbar?
thanks
Edit: Also, SearchSpy will not index if GDS has indexed already, correct? So if I uninstall GDS and remove its indexes, will SearchSpy then index by itself? Also, when you say Searchspy indexes while your system is idle, does that mean on standby mode, or simply walking away for 10 minutes or so?

@Everybody:
Sorry for not having time to look trough the issues you reported, but I've been really busy. There are good news, thought. I'm currently working on the next version of searchspy.
@sockpupppet88:
If you remove GDS, searchspy will stop working. I'm sure this indexing thing is confusing and I'm trying to improve the app so as to make things easier.
Also, currently it's not possible to put searchspy in the taskbar, despite Google Desktop has a deskbar itself.

Unfourtunately not. As i said many times, a new version is on my plans, but I want to code much more features than I can or have time to. Plus building an indexing system is a HUGE task.
Once I get a new version of this done, hope I can provide you a nice and eye-candy guide

bts, it's NOT stoped. i've been searching for information on how to build this indexing system lately. I've also played a little with some source code, but belive me: it's hard. very hard.
Basically, I have to trap every kind of changes that can happen in the file system (delete, create, move, rename etc... AND index it recussively AT THE SAME TIME). Plus there's a database to be kept

Hello!
I just downloaded SearchSpy today and I am mighty impressed by the software. It's marvellous: an exact clone of 'Spotlight'. I do have a few queries though:
1. Is it possible to integrate GMail indexing into the search results? I mean, when I search from the GDS searchbox, it also shows me the reults matching my search query from my GMail account which is integrated into the sidebar. Is it possible to do it via SearchSpy? It should show up like Spotlight shows the reults from Mail.app.
2. How to change the text 'SearchSpy' beside the searchbox to 'Spotlight'? I mean, the whole purpose of using the software is Mac emulation, so it will be useful only if it shows 'Spotlight'.
3. Is there some shortcut for displaying the searchbar (like 'Command + Space' in Tiger)?
4. Can the Spotlight icon somehow be brought on the left hand side of the time, like on a Mac?
5. It's slightly off topic but is there any way to have the sidebar but completely remove Google's searchbox from it? I don't want it floating on my desktop or taskbar or anywhere. After all, why do I need it when I have SearchSpy!
Please answer these questions ASAP!
Thank you!

i was wonderinig why ?
gds does a gr8 job at it

why reinvent the wheel,
i understand thatll make it a standalone app,which of course is awesome,
but its gonna take a LOOOOOOOONG TIME,

I agree with you: an indexing system is a huge challenge and GDS does it's job very well. Why building it then? There are some reasons:
Since Google Desktop seems not to be focused on search anymore (e.g. sidebar, gadgets, timeline) I wanted to build something which could provide a better alternative to organize the user's data. By maintaining my OWN database tables with my OWN code, I'll be able to add wonderful features like live folders or tags in a far future. Changes will also make searchspy way faster once it's done (I hope so
)
Unfourtunately, there's no latest stable building because I'm not improving the app. I'm (slowly) REWRITING the whole thing from zero. The only thing you'd get now would be a blank screen with two buttons (there's not a GUI).
