Thanks for the quick reply. I would just like to say that I really like this app and i think that it is really slick and professional looking and has a great feel to it. Thanks for the great work.
I have reinstalled GDS and searchspy- so I no longer get these messages. The exact dialouge is as I wrote in my first post. And the box has a black cross in a red circle with just an OK button I think. This error only appeared when I locked the computer and there were about 5 of the 1stmessage and 40 of the 2ndmessage.
I currently use Miranda and the GDS plugin to index chats- When I search for something in an indexed chat those chats register as results in the results count that appears next to the search input box but they do not show up as 'actual results'. Would you know what file extension i would need to show them.

Sorry, but SearchSpy was created to look for files, not mails or chats. It's a problem I can't avoid, because the filters I created to organize files are projected to deal with files.
If you want to index chat, you should use a Miranda Plug-in that saves the history as a file outside of GDS Index.

I just updated to the new version; the flickering has been reduced greatly in this release. However still occurs when you start typing in the search bar. The flickering is of the entire desktop, or desktop icons
Also, in the Options tab of the preferences window, changing the rightclick menu results from window to SearchSpy does not save when restarting the application and reverts back to "Windows" upon a restart.
Also, with SearchSpy's right click menu selected, rightclicking on returned results and choosing: "open folder" does not return the proper directory with the desired file but returns another folder containing one of the results in the list. (misaligned?)
Also, when you first click on the systray icon, the searchbar appears with the cursor blinking in the text field, this leads me to start typing a search immediately, but I discover that the text field does not have focus and I need to re-click back into the text field... Could this be fixed so that once the systray icon is clicked, the text field would be have focus to immediately start typing?
Could you please tell me how to enable shadows? Do you mean Shadows for the SearchBar?
Also, my earlier question about whether or not SearchSpy could return Folders as results went unanswered, but upon doing some searches it seems that no, SearchSpy does not return Folder results. Could you possibly provide an option in the program to "Return Folders in Search Results" ? Is this programmatically possible? A humble request
My System is an HP Laptop Pavilion zd8000 series, 1gb ram, WindowsXPProSP2 Fully updated, with FlyakiteOSX3Beta4, Vanim, AVG Free Antispyware, WB5 via Stardock Central, GDS, TopDesk, Strokeit mouse gestures, Konfabulator 2.1.1.

I have a couple of suggestions...
-Floating button (position anywhere on screen [or dock to taskbar])
-Customizable hotkeys
-The option to change the SearchSpy text on the search bar
-When you click off of the search bar, make it go away.
Other than those things, I'm pretty sure this is the best Spotlight clone I've used.
Great work

1. You can move the menu by simply dragging the blue area
2. I'll try to.
3. SearchSpy is the name of the app. Don't know yet if I'll let people put "Spotlight" there:p
4. I can be anoying to some people.
@firecracker6 Shadows suposed to be enabled if you enabled them in windows. They're not big. (Look like the ones in popup menus). I used the same shadow as windows because any other kind of shadow would be a pain to create. I'll work on the bugs, thanks for the feedback.

It seems as if I spoke too early. Even when using GDS I still get the same error messages when lcoking my computer- please see the screen shots below.

I get this problem also.

theres no way i can express my graditude and imagine how u could have done this.
it almost seems like you scrunched all the spotlight clones together into one whole..... *THING*
well i would like to know, is there a setting for like "always ontop" or like "never ontop?"
thanks again.

After playing around with this program a bit I have a few suggestions/questions about features
1) Is there any way to desaturate the colour of the SearchSpy Menu so that I can get a milk-like colour/look.
2) Also can you launch the search window from the menu? For example Shift+Return opens the search window with the results. Rather than having to click on "Show All". Possibly encompased by the already mentioned hot-key functionality.
3) While search spy cannot return chat/email results- is there any way to compare the full number of file results to the full number of all results returned next to the search box- and some way indicate that "There may be x-number of email/chat/other results" from this comparison. This may also link to a GDS search page that includes these results...
