Hello

I tried in vain to google and search this forum for the following question:

How can I convert old docklets (on an old dock) to RKLauncher or even to Object Dock or others?

Must I retype or drag and drop exes and lose my fine customized pngs?

I admit that I am new - just spent two weeks learning about emulation and then overhauling my XP system's interface to look like my friend's mac - i just love it. So new in fact, that i have realized that my 'aquadock' dock is some sort of rip or hack or something of y'zdock??? I just downloaded a bunch of pieces from all over emulation sites, and used them (freewares, of course). SO, i spent all this time making gorgeous little icons and things on my aquadock bar, and i discovered RK just recently, and i love it much more. so i want to get rid of aquadock and only use RKLauncher.

When I click 'show new apps' all my taskbar programs show up
(like iBackup.exe and other 'resident' programs).

Anyway, thanks for your help in advance. i must say that so far, THIS forum seems to be the most complete (although many thread links in older forum posts don't seem to work).

As I understood by docklets you actually mean shortcuts.

Currently there is no utility that will do coversion of configuration files between diferent docks (and I don't think there will be one in the future) so you have to configure dock (place shortcuts on it) manually - drag'n'drop.

Good lord...you did a search using that long sentence? No wonder you didnt find anything.

Searches dont work like that, you only use keywords...

like this:

"convert docklets"

If you use "Object Dock", you may not find all your answers because some people use the tag 'OD' instead of typing out the name. Also, some people type 'rklauncher' without spaces, and others use a space after 'rk' so you should only use KEY WORDS.

Wow, i cant believe I am teaching someone how to do a search in the intarwebz

I guess that's what me means.... Shortcuts to Programs....

So just drag-n-drop your exes on RKlauncher.. and then you will have those PNGs in folder called icons, inside your aquadock folder.

Just configure each shortcut in RKlauncher to use those PNGs

yes, i meant app shortcuts. i guess for new people like me 'docklets' 'app shortcuts' mean the same thing. but now i am corrected...bien entendu!

duckie: thanks for your help. just for the record, and to allay your fears, i searched for only short word combinations.

and i am deleting aquadock in any case. you may want to check out this link that first recommended it: http://features.enga...28351836181248/

i mean, everything else in the article worked, why would i be suspicious of aquadock? thanks for the heads up though.

And PS, i am in the process of doing exactly what is suggested. recreating the app shortcuts in RK...but since people are always changing docks, etc., it seems like a conversion utility would be handy...(esp since there is a y'zdock and object dock import utility already for RK beta .4)...

Thanks again...Rich

Also, since you're new here, you should know that RKLauncher is still in beta phase. That means that not all the options are working and you should try to read all the threads around here to find out more.

A shortcut is a link to a program, a docklet is much more, it's a small program itself.
The support for OD docklets (docklets!) is not complete, but the developer, Raduking, is working on it (and all the other features, of course).

The exclusion list is not working in current build - in the sense that you can add programs only by editing itemlist.conf (in the folder where you're installed rklauncher) or, by "show new apps" and then selecting the one that you don't want to appear in the dock (because it's a dock although we call it launcher :P ). Other option from "exclusion" chapter are not functional right now.

As for keeping your shortcuts configuration (you mean to transfer it from a build to another?) you have to save itemlist.conf and then overwrite the one from the new build - I hope I understood exactly what you want...
