iTunes - residual window?

Hey Folks,

Anyone else notice that when you shut down iTunes, another minimized window shows up? Moving it out of the dock makes it go away, but I'm curious. I see the behavior in both 0.3 and the nightly beta.

I'm running iTunes with the Multi-Plugin running.

Yep, I've noticed it. In fact, between iTunes and Trillian (both of which minimize to the dock when neither should), I've been moved to switch back to OD--at least, until RKLauncher gets that little kink worked out. As soon as it does, I'm there.

Well - I don't mind that it minimizes to the dock. iTunes will minimize to the dock in OSX 10.4 as well.

OD? Nope - not going back. RK with its few flaws is exactly what I've been looking for! I ran OD on 2.8Ghz machines and its still choppy as hell. RK is nice and smooth, even on an old P3 500 laptop.

I work as a Team Lead over a desktop group. I get to work on Macs and PCs. I checked iTunes behavior in the dock on in Tiger and it does minimize to the dock with an iconized screenshot.

Ah well...I'm sure it'll get fixed.

Thanks for the reply - just wanted to confirm it wasn't just mine.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but since I specifically checked the "minimize to tray" option in iTunes, my iTunes should not minimize to my dock. This also leads to the "ghost window" problem of which RadioMike originally spoke. Trillian, by the way, requires checking a box just to make it a taskbar item (which I haven't checked), so it shouldn't be minimizing to the dock, either.

In my opinion, Mac emulation shouldn't break an available program option, but I guess that's just me. :slant:

I cannot possibly intercept all options in all applications you might use...
I will though implement the exclusion feature with which you can exclude apps from minimizing to dock...

Raduking,

Many, many thanks for such an awesome application. I was never, ever happy with OD. You're so on the right track it's amazing.

By the way - and just a question more than a suggestion (and I should probably ask this in another thread, but what the heck):

I'm wondering if it might not be possible to have two distinct setup options for RK: The first and the default being as it works now.

The second setup option would be for behavior much like OSX. The default dock on reboot would show a Win Explorer ("Finder") icon and perhaps control panel, plus any docklets. Then, applications would only appear when chosen from any launch point; Object Dock launch, start menu, Explorer window, etc. Minimized apps would behave exactly as in the default setup.

I only mention this because as we are all aware, the OSX dock isn't really a launch bar for a defined number of "main" applications. Its behavior is as I describe above.

This would give users 2 options then: Default behavior as now, a launching dock - a second option more closely resembling OSX dock behavior.

I'm not a coder so I can't imagine the additional work or even the feasibility of such a thing, but hey - thought I'd ask!

Take care and all my best regards,

MIke

Of course not, Raduking. Anyone who expects you to manage that is daft. You've done fantastic work so far, and like I said in my first post, as soon as exclusions are implemented, it'll be perfect for me. (In fact, 0.4 build 134 is running right now!)

Anyone who thinks that commercial backing is required to craft a program of substance and beauty need look no further than the developers on this forum to see how false that is. Kudos to you and all the other developers for making the computer experience a much more enjoyable thing. :)

Let me tell you something:
I had the same problem with iTunes 4.7, but since I updated to 4.8 that problem NEVER occured again. I use minimise to system tray, not minimise to task bar.

Huh. So it's an iTunes-related issue? I use the Multi-Plugin for iTunes, though, which I've heard isn't compatible with 4.8 at this time. Ah well, I'll figure out a workaround.

Ok - I'm an idiot. You can accomplish something very similar with "show new applications" and "exclude".

Doh!

I don't know if this is an iTunes-related issue. I tried to use Multi-Plugin with iTunes 4.8, but I run into that compatibility issue everybody is talking of. These 2 problems migtht be related. Maybe try to disable Multi-Plugin, and see if the problem occur again.
