there's a couple of apps floating around here that i'd like to use, but don't. (firefox pre-loader and iject, in case you're wondering). why am i not using them? because y'z shadow is shadowing an invisible window for each app. of course, this could be incorrect coding on the part of these apps, but i notice this 'phantom shadowing' on any window that has an invisible border extending beyond the visible window (i.e.: wmp).

so, is mr. yamaguchi still around? i assume at this point he has no intention of updating. do you think he would be open to letting someone else work on his code? is there anyone here who;s got the skills and desire? is it even possible? i suppose were talking about re-writing to make the shadow based on the visible part of the window, as opposed to just the window itself. sounds rather difficult. of course, a brand new app with this idea taken into account would be welcome also.

maybe this should be radu's next project... ;)

I would think a solution might be something to the effect of extending the capabilities of adjusting the shadow offsets. This would require a maintained list of exception programs which would allow one to assign shadow states tailored to a particular app. (an exclusion list like management of sorts) Additionally, the adjustment of the shadow on the y axis is somewhat limited right now and that would need to be expanded upon... mmm.. definitely, having a solid code base to start this would be nice. I certainly hope something comes of this ;)

I know this isn't incorrect coding on for the Firefox Preloader. What seems to be happening is that Y'z Shadow is putting a shadow under a window even though the WS_VISIBLE style is absent.

No worries, won't develop it further, because a) it was slow like hell (real-time blurring *is* slow) and B) I hardly have time for it. ;)

@ AndreasV: can't you just paint a png shadown around the window? would that be faster?
