Use this topic to report bugs in SysStats and request new features. Here are some to get us started (not all of these will be added/fixed in the next release, but some will):

Feature Requests
Generalize controllers.
Add script controller.
Add outline fonts.
Add ability to access items by name from scripts rather than just by index.
Add ability to scale whole desklet in AveDesk.
Tweak XML meter so that it displays most recent values when disconnected.
Add mapped overlay (if you've skinned WA5 you should have some idea of what this is).
Add drawer overlay (ditto)
Add mapped controller (ditto).
Add AVI overlay (principally for animation)
Roll all separately released plugins into main release
Add ability to load new plugins without restart of SysStats
Add SysStats installer
Add config packager

Bugs
XML meter doesn't work on all machines.
SysStats doesn't work on W2K.
Loading a new config leaves old scripts running.
Paths often turn out to be absolute when they should be relative.
Make date/time display in localized format.
Make PDH locale independent.

Wow, lotta stuff. Here are my feature requests:

- Automatic extension of context menu with AveDesk 1.1 defaults. (easy)
- Moving configuration dialogs into tabs of AveDesk desklet property sheet.
- User editable context menu items (a meter or a controller?) which sink into script meters, user defined shortcuts etc., also to be dynamically customizable at runtime from script. (I'm thinking of an entirely scripted version of the AveTunes widget here, so that all library and control context menu items can be added / removed / renamed at runtime)

(Busload of faith)

For the Configure Meters dialog, it would be nice if you could implement some of the following:
  • Inline renaming
  • Context menu access to button functions
  • Drag and Drop placement
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Esc closes dialog

A way to place multiple shortcut within the config not just a shortcut for the config......hope that makes since. Also uptime script would like to display days hours and mins in any order I want instead of just 1d 12h 39m.

How about en-/disabling overlays. If not in the UI, at least via scripting. That way, controls will be able to switch between config parts easily and no need for redundant meters. (I'm mostly thinking of the Weather configs here, as it is, 3 connections are made AFAIK. Even if this is not the case, surely AD's control panel would be cleaner.)

edit: I see Visible is already an attribute of overlays.

edit2: Would it be possible to add a width attribute to TextOverlays? This would help for RSS feed configs so the text won't run off the image in the background. Even better would be if ellipsis could be added automatically if the text surpasses the set width.

I'm using sysstats with avedesk1.1 and use it to add a desktop calender... however it seems to always be repositioned on avedesk restart with the X & Y co-orders used the rong way round, so the calener is always a ways off the screen.

Cheers!

I installed the SysStat to my D:Program FilesAveDeskDesklets and it works when I create a new stat meter, but when I exit and restart Avedesk I get this error.

like Ghostwalker said multiple shortcuts would be awesome..
also being able to select if the shortcut should be double clicked or single regardless of avedesk setting..
although this might cause problems with the docks?

and idea similar to mimeryme
with an width option on the textoverlays..
instead of have the words just get cut off how about making it scroll or even making it an option of either having it scroll or not..

Hi Judge,

Congratulations on your work and particularly on SysStats. I have a problem: when I open up the SysStats config dialog and then hit the Controllers tab, the list of all of the controllers in the docklet on the right-hand side is always void! So, I can't use any controller.
Moreover, many of my docklets should be shortcuts and I can't figure out any way to implement a shortcut in SysStats 2.5.2 other than trough a shortcut controller.
Thanks for any possible help.

here's my request: composite overlay should be the 'master' for any text overlays falling under it. example: in your horizontal calendar, if i want to change the font, i have to do so for each day of the month. in MY universe, you change the font in the parent, and all children inherit that change. following this logic, you could have several groups (composites overlays), each separately controllable, making easy tweaking of complex config's more realizable. right?

thx for listening!

I've been having a couple problems on several computers.
1. Several weather configs (aero-weather, weather mini, the weather) will all of a sudden stop displaying completely. They seem to just get cropped at a certain point. The drawer cursor still shows up, but the drawer won't open, or doesn't display below the cropped portion if it does open. I've been able to delete the config and resinstall and it works again, but not always.

2. TextDate seems to lose some of the numbers its supposed to display. For example, the minutes will no longer display, but the hours and seconds continue to work fine. This has happened on at least two computers (and, oddly enough, at the same time).

Any suggestions? Anyone else having these problems? I haven't seen anything else in the other forums about these configs.

Thanks.

I've seen #1 with aero-weather before...when it happened I deleted that desklet and added a different weather desklet that was similar - can't remember which one it was now, but it had a sliding tray that worked...then for the heck of it I deleted the new one and went back to aero-weather, and it now worked!

It only happened that one time, and it's been fine for a couple weeks now, but I know exactly what you're talking about

I had AveDesk running w/ SysStats 2.0, but now I have upgraded to SysStats 2.5 and I can't get any of the configs to load. I can create a new, blank SysStats desklet, but trying to load a config or create a desklet from a config causes AveDesk to crash. I have tried completely reinstalling AveDesk to a different directory, but no dice.

Everything works fine on another computer I have, so I know it *should* work!

I know this probably doesn't provide enough information to fix the problem, but I'm not sure what to do next. Any thoughts?

on the overlay tab for example, if you could move the delete away from the config or make the delete button more pronounced, maybe even a pop up warning, "Do you want to delete this config setting" or something. Just to make it editing of the config files more user friendly. there are some really DUMB puppys out there (myself) that would like to see this feature. I have in the past deleted 4 settings that I was just trying to edit, but in the speed of my limited knowledge, end up deleted the setting. the only recovery was just to re-unzip the file and load a fresh config file.

may be a preview window, so that when editing the config file, we can edit with a preview.

Here's a nice feature, if there was a color picker that would let you pick a color from the desktop rather than from the limited color pallet this would be nice. trying to get that near matching color so that the docket file or widget to match the desktop can be a task, even if you dont have a copy of fireworks or some professonal graphic editing software where you can do a screen capture and then trying to get that exact color from the eye droper tool. Yea I know judge this may be a stretch but these are wishes and I am sure others may find these useful.

I am sure I would like to see more in the future, but as they come, I will post.

Hi there, great work on SysStats but I've got a bug to report on my current system set up.

Bug: SysStats crashes when AveDesk is run without Administrator privilages.

Description: I run AveDesk as a standard user on my system (for a more secure set up), but if I add a SysStats desklet then AveDesk will immediately crash, citing the SysStats DLL. It works absolutely fine if I start AveDesk using RunAs... -> Administrator, however running as a different user prevents hooking into the applications I'm using (which are, of course, running as my normal, restricted account).

It would be wonderful if you could fix up whatever permissions issue for the next release. I can only hope that it's some harmless little slip up in the code, and not something fundamental.

Thanks.

Hmm, I follow the instructions on how to install, and it all seems fine, but when I open up Avedesk 1.2 and try to add a widget, Avedesk crashes. It does not do this when SysStats is not there.

since installign my new motherboard and doing a clean install of windows and avedesk and sysstats.. its become basicly unuseable. it hangs for literally 3mins anytime saving is required, when it works. most of the time however it tries to save, and it crashes avedesk, and damages the config file. anytime there is any change at all, it hangs for about 1 min. only happens when there are sysstats scripts running.

hmmm... I don't know where to put this bug (AveDesk) or (RK Launcher) or (YzDock) or here @ SysStat. I think it applies to all.

I used weather (dock/Desk-Lets), I used MailCheck (Dock/Desk-Lets), and I used so many other Dock/Desk-Lets that access Internet so? here is the problem+Request "SysStat or AveDesk or RK Launcher should NOT try to access Internet IF the connection is OFF" Imagine the number of annoying Dial-Up connection pop-ups I see... I simply turned off the Dock/Desk-lets that uses internet because everytime I start Windows, BANG! RK, Ave, SysStat asking for connection!

I think its time for Dock/Desk-Lets to ask the parent application (RK, ODock, MobyDock, AveDesk) whether the Network is ON or OFF. If the Internet/Network is OFF, There should be NO activity or user intervention asked! I mean HUSHed completely :D ! Ok, there can be Internet/Network status check upon user specified time interval or your own reasonable time interval.

btw I understand the text looks rude but its not to offence but, to stop offence, annoyance :D

<<<>>>
Oh yeah it applies to Dock/DeskLet Developers too... I was wondering, may be these internet based desklet should remain vanished till they get a "go" from AveDesk that the connection is established ;)

I am running sysstats 2.5.8 and have this problem:
When I choose a label for a widget (PidlShortcut) and select show on mouseover, then click 'OK' the lable doesn't show up on mouseover. However, ifI click 'Apply' !OK and then cancel it works fine.
