I have been doing a little more research on the fontbook / font management application and it looks like it is possible to add fonts to Windows font table that are not in the trivial fonts folder (c:\winnt\fonts).
This opens up a lot of possibility for font-management. For example, it would be possible to have different collection of fonts that are stored on different drives and with one click enable/disable all the fonts in that collection so they are no longer in Windows Font table.
Only, this is not a create-in-one-night application: it will take some time and I need to invest some resources in it. Because I don't want to do this sh!t for noone using it, I want to know how many of you will actually use it and maybe even pay a little sum of money for it.
Please don't just say 'yes create it, you monkey' because you want to have another aqua-clone app.

If I can disable whole bunches of fonts, doesn't that make load times faster since they don't have to load every single font out there?

my font folder takes thousand years to open, and sometimes even freeze the explorer. I guess is because the amount of fonts installed, but I don't want to erase them because I'm a graphics designer and I need them. The fontbook in panther is just an incredible ussefull app, windows user need something like this really bad.
If you have access to a mac, you should try it. is an excellent app.
so.....
"yes create it, you monkey"
just kd.

>.< Looks like I'm the only one to say NO!
I already have ATM on my machine for font management - I rarely use it (as I design on Mac's all day) - but what I do use is the font browsing - which is handy for me.
I feel what you have created so far is briliant and almost an exact copy of the OS X version (apart from the font enabling etc) but I don't feel the extra work is necessary.
I know this is way within your capabilities, but I feel there is a limit to the lengths we can goto/ask from developers.

I dont even see how this would be realy usefull, why install and uninstall fonts all the time, its kinda like installing and uninstalling programs all the time (which everyone i think would agree is dumb unless you have like a 3 gig HD). I would much rather see your time wasted idling in the KDX chat

I guess you arent a graphic designer.
It is EXTREMELY useful when you are working on a piece of art in PS and cant remember the name of a font that would fit just perfectly into it. So, you start font book, have a look around, find maybe an even MORE suitable font and use it, no more highlighting text and clicking the drop down and then guessing your way through your huge library.
Plus, drag n' drop installing (please implement this!) is so much less time consuming than going to C:\Windows\fonts every time you want to install one.
Take your time on this Ave, dont work too hard.

Advanced fontbook it is.
Seeking for some beta testers who are willing to test dangerous stuff [advanced fontbook]. Please reply in this thread if you are interested.

I voted for no.
IMHO, dear Andreas, you should focus on AveDesk and other really system
relevant stuff; Like in terms of making the desktop look more Aqua...
A fontbook and an image viewer should only be widgets to what you'd
come up with next... Your expertise should make you a "metaprogrammer",
meaning giving us mere mortal coders the one breakthrough to code with...
Delegate FontBook and ImageViewer.

Coding is going faster than expected. I found some not documented functions which I got to work finally. Expect an update pretty soon. :naughty:
