story: i did some video work for a client, and they are wanting to know if i can do an online database for them. i told them i could look into it, so here i am... looking into it.

need: an online database for a foodbank that a person could log into and check a person's status to see if they have recived food or any gifts in the past few days or something. this is so that a person does not hit up all the area churches for money or whatever.

question: where could i get an online program that a person could log into and check someones status and update it?

i know this is pretty vague, so if anyone has any knowledge or can just point me in the right direciton it would be appreciated.

thanks

Ok, you'll probably want a database backend (mySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or one of a few others, oh and anyone who tells you Access is a workable database is a liar).

mySQL is free, the other two I mention aren't, but they're all going to be fairly well matched, for what you want to do.

You'll also need to put some sort of front-end on that - you can't just give someone access to the database. For that, you'll be looking at PHP, ASP, JSP, ASP.Net, or something of that ilk.

That should get you started, at least.

You may also want to look at postgresql. Its also free, and MUCH more powerful/stable than MySQL.
