I want to put like 15-30 second clips of the songs of the day. Honestly I want to put the whole song but I know that is illegal. Now, do you think it's illegal to put 15-30 second clips?

I own the CD's of these songs but obviously do not own the rights to the songs. I wasn't sure about this because I know amazon and the itunes store do this but they obviously have some form of contract with the labels.

Probably a dumb question...

and yea i think it would be illegal... the entire song belongs to the artist... and a side note, alot of ppl believe apples music store is illegal aswell.

hum...if I wear an artist and a label, I would only think that putting out samples would be good. Especially only like 15-30 second samples...

Could I link to samples on like Amazon.com or itunes when available?

you can do whateva... however since you dont own a distribution license for that music, my opinion is it's illegal. the only reason amazon and iTunes have previews it because its premoting the sale of a license.

i see no problem however if you link to amazons page where the sample is kept, providing you dont hot link it directly.

Or you could just place a direct link to the iTunes Music Store entry for that song using this ;)

I believe on Television, the maximum time you can play a song without proper licensing is 5 seconds without getting into any trouble. How does this help you? I don't know. But I am s(h)ure you can find something useful out of it.
